Poorak Poshaahar Yojana:
In order to improve their nutritional status, the Poorak Poshaahar Scheme provides supplementary nutrition to the children between six months and six years of age, pregnant and lactating women and adolescent girls. The Scheme is funded by the Centre and State Governments on a 50:50 ratio basis.
Implementation Status
The Scheme is benefitting over 79 lakhs children and women at present.
Benefits and Eligibility
Every anganwadi centre (AWCs) covers an average of 80 children aged between six months to six years. Every centre also covers, on average, about 16 pregnant or lactating women and three adolescent girls. Each centre provides supplementary nutrition at the rate of Rs. 2 /- per child per day, Rs. 5 /- per woman and girl per day and Rs. 6 /- per day per child, where the child is severely malnourished. The centre provides these services for 25 days in a month.
How to Access
The beneficiaries of the Scheme are identified by the anganwadi workers and the distribution of the supplementary nutrition is done through AWCs.
