Patna set to have biggest children park at Gandhi Maidan

Patna: Historic Gandhi Maidan is all set to welcome kids in the biggest children park of the state capital with 42 different kinds of amusement and play machines on May 20.

The park spreads in a 10000 square feet land will have the play things for all age groups.

Patna divisional commissioner Anand Kishor, who inspected the progress of construction work on Saturday, said the park would accommodate 250 children at a time.

"The park will provide 42 different types of entertainment and play equipment to children so that they can make their park visit a memorable one", he said.

He also directed the agency to complete the work by May 15 so that the Park could be declared open for public on May 20.

The park will have Micky Mouse paintings in its boundary which will be made by poly-carbonate sheets.

The park will also have high quality and aesthetic bench where kids and their parents could rest for a while.

Kishor said the entry fee of the park would be Rs 5 per person and the park would remain open from 5am to 8pm.

Medica Heart Institute starts functioning

Patna: Medica Heart Institute with 100-bed capacity was inaugurated here on Saturday. BJP MLA Arun Kumar Sinha cut the ribbon to give a go to the hospital founded by Dr Ayanav Dev Gupta and Dr Prabhat Kumar.

The cardiac emergency service of the hospital will begin from Monday (May 1, 2017). Out Patient Department (OPD) and diagnostics have already started functioning on the opening day.

Bihar Government will chalk out heat action plan

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday said the Government would chalk out heat action plan to save people from excessive hot weather and subsequent heat wave condition prevailing across the state for the past couple of days.

He asked the disaster management department to prepare heat action plan and send the advisory to all districts.

Addressing the review meeting of the disaster management department, he said Government had already prepared Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for drinking water supply. "Under this project water tankers will be pressed into service to provide drinking water in water-starved village", he said.

He said Government would also do the mapping of the water sources available in the state. Government would also carry out renovation works of all public wells, he added.

Patna Police recover Rs 5 crore ruby ring

Patna: Patna Police have recovered a costly ruby ring worth Rs crore which was looted from a local trader Baban Choubey's Nageshwar Colony residence about one month ago here. Police have also arrested Bashir Ahmad, who was involved in the crime, here on Saturday.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Mahraj said Bashir was arrested from Danapur railway station when he was returning from Mumbai after his unsuccessful bid to sell the ruby ring there.

The mastermind of the crime Mushtaque Khan alias Goldy is still out of the grip of police. However, Bashir had confessed the police that Mushtaque was in Mumbai.

It may be recalled that a group of criminals looted the ring and other costly jewelries worth more than Rs 2 lakh from Baban Choubey's house on March 26 and escaped.

It is said that the ring belonged to Kulkant Singh and he gave it to Baban Choubey to keep it safe.

Professor Rashbihari Singh is new vice chancellor of Patna University

Patna: Four teachers of the Patna University got new assignments as two of them have been elevated as vice chancellor while the other two have been promoted as pro vice chancellor.

According to a Governor House notification on Saturday, professor Rasbihari Singh will be the new vice chancellor of the Patna University while professor Ravindra Kumar Sinha aka Dolphin Man will be the vice chancellor of Nalanda Open University.

Magadh Mahila College principal and former dean of the Patna University Dolly Sinha has been nominated as pro vice chancellor of the Patna University while Dr Kayranand Paswan has been chosen as pro vice chancellor of Magadh University.

This is for the first time four teachers of Patna Universityhave been elevated as vice chancellor and pro vice chancellor at a time.

Professor Sarva Narayan Jha has been made vice chancellor of Kameshwar Singh Sanskrit University, Darbhanga.

Professor Chandeshwar Prasad Singh will be the pro vice chancellor of the Kameshwar Singh Sanskrit University.

Other newly nominated pro vice chancellors are Ram Jatan Prasad (Tilka Majhi University, Bhagalpur, professor Raj Kumar Mandal (BRA Bihar University, Muzaffarpur), Dr Jay Gopal (LN Mithila University, Darbhanga), professor Syed Md Rafique Azad (MMH Arabic and Persian University, Patna) and Dr Madan Mohan Goyal (Veer Kunwar Singh University, Ara).
