The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission comprises several key components, including:

  • Health ID/ABHA Number: A unique identification number assigned to individuals in the healthcare system to identify and track them, used to access and manage patients' personal health information and medical records

  • Health Facility Registry (HFR): A registry of healthcare facilities to support the digital health ecosystem

  • Personal Health Record (PHR): A digital record that allows individuals to link, store, and share their health records to access healthcare services with autonomy and consent

  • Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR): A registry of healthcare professionals to support the digital health ecosystem

  • Unified Health Interface (UHI): A unified interface to facilitate seamless interaction within the digital health ecosystem

Launch and Objectives

The Prime Minister of India launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission on September 27, 2021, with the objective of creating a digital health ecosystem that supports universal health coverage in an efficient, accessible, inclusive, affordable, timely, and safe manner. The mission leverages IT and associated technologies to support existing health systems with a citizen-centric approach, aiming to strengthen the accessibility and equity of health services

The ABDM has implemented vital building blocks to unite all stakeholders in the digital healthcare ecosystem, including the establishment of the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) to provide a standard identifier for patients across healthcare providers. With over 300 million ABHAs and 50 million health records linked, the mission has made significant progress in providing accessible, affordable, and equitable healthcare through digital highways
