Railway Week celebrations begin

Patna, April 12, 2017: East Central Railway (ECR) general manger DK Gayen inaugurated Railway Week celebrations at SK Memorial Hall on Wednesday.

Gayen felicitated several employees for their outstanding contributions and also released a book to mark the occasion.

ECR women employees presented attractive cultural programmes to keep audience spell bound.

Patna petrol pumps observe 12-hour strike

Patna, April 11, 2017: Petrol pumps of the state capital remained closed for 12 hours in protest against the increasing incidents of loot at petrol pumps across the state.

The 12-hour long strike began at 6 am and ended at 6 pm causing hardship to bikers and auto-rickshaw drivers most.

The petrol pump owners association claimed that the strike was successful in Patna as all 156 petrol pumps remained closed.

The association stated that they would decide the further course of action in the meeting of the association members from different districts on April 16.

"If the government does not provide proper security to petrol pumps and meet other demands, the association will call for indefinite strike soon", association members said.

Mahatma Phule's birth anniversary celebrated

Patna, April 11, 2017: Several functions were organised to celebrate the birth anniversary of noted social reformer Mahatma Jyotirao Govindrao Phule on Tuesday.

Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind paide floral tributes to Mahatma Phule in a government function at SK Memorial Hall. Bihar Finance Minister Abdul Bari Siddiqui along with other leaders also paid tributes to Mahatma Phule on the occasion.

Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders also celebrated Mahatma Phule's birth anniversary in different places of the state capital.

Chhattisgarh to implement phase-wise prohibition

Patna, April 11, 2017: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Tuesday called on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at the latter's official residence here. Kumar felicitated Singh by presenting him a bouquet and memento during the interaction.

Later, Raman Singh said Chhattisgarh was heading towards prohibition. "We have already decided to implement phase-wise prohibition in Chhattisgarh. Government will no allow liquor sale in areas having a population up to 3000," he said.

Congress workers take out Prabhat Pheri

Patna, April 11, 2017: Congress workers and leaders led by Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee president and education minister Ashok Choudhary took out "Prabhat Pheri" (morning march) on Tuesday to commemorate 100 years of Champaran Satyagrah movement led by Mahatma Gandhi.

The Prabhat Pheri began from Martyrs Memorial (near Vidhan Sabha) and culminated into a meeting at Mahatma Gandhi's statue at Gandhi Maidan.
