CENTA announces the third edition of the Teaching Professionals' Olympiad

After overwhelming response in the last two years, CENTA TPO 2017 will be held on December 9th 2017, in 28 cities across India as well as in Dubai, with 14 Subject Tracks, 3 Challenger Tracks and 4 languages to choose from.
“Attending the Global Education and Skills Forum (GESF) in Dubai was better than a dream come true as I had not even dreamt of it. Meeting dedicated teachers from around the world gave me a perspective of how much positive work is being done. Meeting mentors like Julia Gillard, Andrea Bocelli, Brian Lara, Arvind De Silva, Thomas Friedman, Bear Grylls and Sadhguru was an extremely enriching and rewarding experience,” says Prachi Lahiri, the Middle School Social Studies topper from CENTA TPO 2016.
Ms. Lahiri is not the only one to share such an experience. Over the last two years, Centre for Teacher Accreditation (CENTA) Teaching Professionals’ Olympiad (TPO) has emerged as a unique platform to demonstrate excellence in teaching and celebrate theteaching profession. TPO is now a community of 15000+ teachers from 500+ cities/towns/villages across India.
CENTA TPO is a first-of-its-kind annual competition to reward, recognize and celebrate teachers. With a two-hour objective multiple-choice test format, TPO is based on the CENTA Standards or competenciesand also contributes scores to the CENTA Certification. CENTA aims to empower teachers, catalyze their professional development and drive tangible motivation for the teaching profession.
The overwhelming response during the last two editions and the feedback from past participants (over 90 per cent say that TPO should be held every year) has propelled CENTA TPO into a bigger avatar this December. TPO now offers 14 subject tracks and three Challenger tracks to choose from. Offered in Middle School English, Maths and Science, TPO Challenger is an additional in‐depth test of
subject expertise and pedagogical practices in the context of that subject. Participants who score above a cut-off can get the CENTA Subject Expertise Micro-Credential, along with special prizes, and are also eligible for main TPO prizes.
There is more reason to cheer for regional language medium teachers this year. In addition to English and Hindi, TPO 2017 is also being held in Tamil and Telugu - these languages can be opted for in ‘Primary School mix of subjects’ track.
“Inclusion of Tamil will encourage Tamil medium teachers to demonstrate their talent along with thousands of teaching professionals from all over India,” says Mr. Mohammad Aslam, officer with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Government of Tamil Nadu.
That’s not all. TPO is poised to reach out to many more people with additional test centres – TPO 2017 will be held across 28 cities in India as well as an international centre in Dubai!
TPO 2017 is presented by The Hindu and supported by Central Square Foundation, Oxford University Press, Dell and Varkey Foundation.
Mr. Sivaramakrishnan, Managing Director of Oxford University Press India, says, “Oxford University Press strongly believes that the teacher is the key pivot to deliver quality education in our institutions. Our many workshops and training programs for teachers focus on their professional development and are designed to nurture quality teaching in India. We are delighted to support this initiative.”
With leading schools in the country starting to give weightage to TPO and CENTA Certificates in teacher recruitment, development and progression, TPO participants can look forward to career opportunities, apart from winning exciting prizes and an entirely confidential personalized report.
