Jivitputrika (also called Jitiya) is a three-day-long Hindu festival which is celebrated from the seventh to ninth lunar day of Krishna-Paksha in Ashwin month. It is celebrated mainly in Maithili, Magadhi and Bhojpuri speaking regions of Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh[ and Nepal. In it mothers observe fast(without water) for wellbeing of their children.

One of the main rituals of this festival is taking a strict Nirjala fast, during which neither water nor food is consumed.
